Video-Dance Lab

Sunday December 28th 2pm to 8ish

i’m going to have a live video-dance lab at MJDC as part of my CHIME activities. i’m hoping to get together some people that are experimenting with live video, dance and music to have sort of a jam. the basic set up will be two cameras and a video switcher. we’ll project the live mix, as well as record it.

this is for dancer’s, video artists and musicians. dancers can explore dance for camera in an environment with the immediate feedback of the projection. video artist can bring additional tools that we can switch into the mix. setups that you’ve been tinkering with, or any other technology that caught your attention, that you would like bring to a lab situation. we will also be recording music and any other audio. the idea is to make a little set up and let the group improvise/experiment. i’m thinking that each hour we’ll reconfigure the setup and have a mini training then we’ll take the hour to explore within that set up.

load in, set up and warm up will start at 2pm. the first “set” will start at 3pm. come for any amount of time.

Dance Lab

I’ll be leading an experimental dance lab…

Sunday mornings from 11am to 2pm November 9, 16, and 23rd.

I’ll be experimenting with integrating movement disciplines that have influenced me. We will practice dance as a meditative state, moving with momentum and efficiency in all directions, moving with energetic impetuous, considering alignment as a transitional state, playing with the full range between the core and the periphery and using imagery to inspire movement. This workshop will be structured after the Body Weather Laboratory that i’ve done with Sherwood Chen and Oguri. The first half of class will be focused on movement training; The second half will be focused on improvisation. I’ll be experimenting with fusing this movement training with release technique and other practices.
